Is YiYo free? General questions

What does YiYo do?

YiYo builds a seven-day meal plan around your goal and your daily routine. When you stray from the plan, you snap a photo of your plate; you ask for a recipe from what you have; and the week's analysis arrives on its own.

Is it paid?

No, it's free. Every feature is unlocked; no subscription, no locked features, no ads.

Will it ever cost money?

Right now every feature is free. If a paid feature comes along in the future, the terms will be announced in advance; there will be no retroactive charge for free use up to that point.

Is it on Android?

iOS only for now. The Google Play version is coming soon.

What languages is it available in?

Six: Turkish, English, German, Spanish, French and Portuguese. Your plan, recipes and commentary are also generated in the language you choose.

Do I need to create an account?

Yes, YiYo can't be used without an account. You can sign up with an email and password, or sign in with your Apple or Google account. If you signed up by email, you need to verify your address first.

Do I need an internet connection?

Yes. Your plan and daily tracking are also stored on your device, but you need a connection to sign in, generate plans and recipes, and analyze photos and barcodes.

How old do I have to be to use it?

YiYo is for users aged 18 and over. If you're 13 or older but under 18, you can use it only with the consent and supervision of a parent or guardian. Children under 13 can't use YiYo.

How is the meal plan built?

What is the plan based on?

It's based on your answers to the short setup questions: age, height, weight, goal and daily routine; your diet style, allergens, health conditions and the foods you dislike. The plan isn't picked from a ready-made template. Details are on the Meal plan page.

What does the plan include?

Meals with set times for every day. Each meal's calories and macros, meaning the amount of protein, carbs and fat, are written out.

How does the monthly plan work?

You choose the plan length: one day, one week or one month. If you chose a monthly plan, the next week is built automatically when you close out the current one.

Which cuisines and diet styles can I choose?

For cuisine: Levantine / Turkish, Mediterranean, Western or Asian. For diet style: vegetarian, vegan, pescatarian, gluten-free or lactose-free. You can also flag seven allergens: gluten, lactose, eggs, shellfish, fish, nuts and soy.

I'm vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free. Does it work?

Yes. You choose your diet style and allergens during setup, and the plan is built around them. If you have an allergy, still check what goes into each meal.

I work shifts or live in a dorm. Will the plan work for me?

Setup asks about your work schedule, whether you live in a dorm and your access to a kitchen. Your answers are turned into a separate prep-time limit for each day; if you have a desk job, you won't get long oven recipes on weekdays.

Can I use it to gain weight or build muscle?

Yes. You choose one of four goals: lose weight, maintain your weight, build muscle or gain weight. Portions and macros are derived from your daily target; with the muscle goal, the plan is protein-heavy. Details are on the Plans for your goal page.

Can I get recipes from the ingredients I have?

Yes. Flag whatever is in your fridge: there are 350 ingredients in nine categories, and if something isn't on the list you can add it yourself. You get a recipe that fits your preferences; you cook it step by step, and when you're done it turns into a meal with one tap. You can save the recipes you like to your favorites.

Calories, photos and tracking

Do I need to buy a kitchen scale?

No. Every meal in the plan already comes with its calories and macros. When you eat something outside the plan, you photograph it or scan the package barcode, then confirm the portion.

How does logging calories by photo work?

Photograph your plate or pick a photo from your gallery. The analysis gives you the dish name, estimated weight, calories and macros; when you confirm the portion, it's added to your meal record. Details are on the Calories by photo page.

How accurate are the calorie values?

They are estimates. Photo analysis and the barcode database are not exact; you always confirm the portion yourself. Treat the numbers as a direction, not a precise measurement.

Where does the barcode information come from?

Barcodes are looked up in the Open Food Facts open database. Only the barcode number is sent; the product's name, brand and nutrition facts are added to your meal record. The camera image isn't saved. Because the database is community-maintained, some products' information may be incomplete or outdated.

How is my calorie target calculated?

Not by asking an AI; it's calculated on the server with published formulas. Your basal metabolic rate is multiplied by the activity factor you choose, and your target never drops below safe minimums. Details are on the How your calorie target is calculated page.

When do I get the weekly and monthly analysis?

Once you've marked every meal of the week, your weekly analysis is ready. After four weeks, a monthly summary: calorie and macro trend, weight change, how closely you followed the plan.

Does it track water intake?

Yes. The water you drink is logged and shows up on the weekly chart alongside your calories. You can also turn on the water reminder if you like.

Can I turn off notifications?

Yes. You choose which of the meal, water and activity reminders are on and at what time; you turn off the ones you don't want. Your notification settings are stored only on your device.

Health conditions and safety

I have a condition such as diabetes or celiac disease.

You can flag these conditions during setup, and they are taken as input when the plan is generated. But YiYo does not give medical advice: talk to your doctor or dietitian before changing your diet.

Which health conditions can I flag?

Diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol, celiac disease, thyroid (Hashimoto's) and kidney conditions. They're taken into account when the plan is generated, but the resulting plan isn't a medical diet.

Who should only use YiYo under supervision?

If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, or have kidney disease, diabetes that requires medication or insulin, or a history of eating disorders, use YiYo only under the supervision of a doctor or dietitian.

Can YiYo replace a dietitian?

No. YiYo is not a health institution, a dietitian or a medical doctor. Plans are for information only and are not a substitute for medical advice.

Could my calorie target end up too low?

Your target never drops below a safe floor. The calorie deficit is between 15% and 30% of your requirement, and at most 1100 kcal a day. The floor is 1200 kcal for women and 1500 kcal for men aged 19–64; under 19, the deficit doesn't exceed 10%.

I have an allergy. Can I trust the plan?

Your allergens are left out when the plan is built; meals whose names contain an allergen are caught and regenerated. Still, this isn't a guarantee: check what goes into each meal yourself.

Your data and your account

What happens to my data?

Data is kept primarily on your device and backed up to your account. The photos you take are not stored. You can delete your account and your data from inside the app; details are on the Privacy Policy and Account Deletion pages.

Are my food photos stored?

No. The photo is resized on your device and sent to the AI provider for analysis only; the result is written to your meal record, and the photo isn't kept. There's no permanent photo archive.

What information about me goes to the AI?

For plan and recipe generation, only your nutrition profile: height, weight, age, sex, allergies, health conditions and preferences. For photo analysis, only your food photo. Your name, email and account identifier are not sent.

Does it have ads or tracking code?

No. The app has no ad network, analytics tracking code or marketing SDK. Your data isn't sold and isn't used for advertising.

How do I delete my account?

In the app, tap “Delete Account” at the bottom of the Profile page, verify your identity and confirm. Your profile, plans and tracking data are permanently deleted; this can't be undone. A step-by-step guide is on the Account Deletion page.

Does deleting the app delete my account too?

No. Removing the app from your device only deletes the data on the device; your account and your data on the server remain. To delete permanently, you need to delete your account from inside the app.

When is deleted data completely gone?

Your profile, plans and tracking data become inaccessible to the app the moment you delete them. Server logs kept for debugging are deleted automatically within 30 days at most; fully purging data from the infrastructure provider's backups can take up to 180 days.
